FCA is owned and operated by licensed landscape architect, Andrew Furtado. As a Rhode Island native he attended the University of Rhode Island for his undergraduate studies. Shortly after receiving his bachelor's degree in landscape architecture, he moved to Raleigh, North Carolina to attend North Carolina State University. There, he received his Master's Degree in Landscape Architecture with a strong emphasis on sustainability of the built environment. Andrew then moved to Houston, Texas to start his professional career with a prominent design build firm, McDugald Steele. Focusing on high-end residential design, he learned more about cultivating relationships with clients, designers and contractors in the field as well as refining his technical drafting and design skills.

In late 2015 Andrew pursued a new opportunity with The Hanover Company, a privately owned real estate development firm specializing in developing, designing and building mixed-use and multi-family properties across the country. In this role, Andrew and his team were responsible for designing and coordinating all elements outside of these structures. This required constant collaboration with the other in-house disciplines including architects, interior designers, developers, lawyers and capital market groups. Each project was unique with its own set of opportunities and constraints. Typical amenities for each project consisted of resort style pools, custom built fireplaces, outdoor grilling and dining areas, outdoor kitchens/pergolas, lounging and gaming areas, dog parks, streetscapes and much more. As this firm operates across the country, Andrew has worked on projects in, Texas, Georgia, Florida, North Carolina, Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

In early 2020 Andrew relocated back to New England and began working for The Hanover Company remotely on a full-time basis. When he wasn't designing from his home office, he was in the field conducting site inspections and working with project managers, superintendents, and landscape contractors to ensure quality control of each project. As a senior level landscape architect for this firm, Andrew was exposed to all phases of these complicated projects including conceptual/3D designing, design development and research, construction documentation, construction administration and post construction evaluation. During this time, Andrew was also working remotely on a part-time basis as an independent contractor with a design build firm in North Carolina called Knight Strategies. This firm which operates in North and South Carolina specializes in high-end residential design.  

 

It was through this culmination of rigorous and extensive work experience coupled with a strong entrepreneurial spirit that confidently led Andrew to begin his own practice. In early 2024 he created FCA Landscape Architecture. He has a very strong desire and appreciation for seeing his design work come to life and thoroughly enjoys working with his clients to help bring their goals to fruition. Andrew is currently licensed in Texas, Rhode Island and Massachusetts. When he is not working, Andrew enjoys spending time with his wife Alexandra and their two sons Anthony & Thomas. He also enjoys an active lifestyle including traveling, golfing, gardening, and carpentry.
